Instagram.com redirected you too many times

UPDATE DECEMBER 18, 2016 7:32 PM EST: While the global issue is still active many users are reporting that they're able to sign in successfully when accessing Candid in "private" or "Incognito mode" via mobile or desktop browsers. This workaround largely follows the same principle outlined below in that cookies for both *.getcandid.com and *.instagram.com are deleted to minimize the odds of triggering the authentication defect.

UPDATE DECEMBER 16, 2016 2:25 PM EST: This issue appears to be back in some some regions over the last 24-48 hours and impacts a wide range of Instagram-connected platforms. We've escalated to the Instagram engineering team in Menlo Park who have confirmed they're actively working on the case. In the interim, you can access your moderation dashboard with email/password based logins and we can help in setting one up if you don't have one yet. There is little discussion of this issue in the public domain other than [1] but we have heard from numerous other platforms that are similarly impacted.

UPDATE JULY 12, 2016 12:22 PM EST: We have received and implemented a workaround suggested by Instagram that appears to correct this issue. They are still deploying a permanent fix globally but it will take some time to synchronize the code across all impacted areas. You should be able to continue to sign into Candid with your Instagram account as usual.

ORIGINAL POST

Over the past 10 days or so, we have started to see increased reports of this error during login from teams in Australia, Canada, Europe and Asia:

Based on your browser, the error might also resemble this:

Or you may simply see: {"error_type": "OAuthException", "code": 400, "error_message": "Matching code was not found or was already used."}

The technical issue is described in detail below and appears to be a bug with Instagram's authentication infrastructure:

Most users should be able to login successfully by deleting all cookies from *.instagram.com, *.getcandid.com and retrying the login by navigating to www.getcandid.com/account/login while remaining signed out of Instagram.com. You will then be prompted to enter your Instagram credentials and the redirect back to Candid should work as expected.

Another workaround is to use your email/password based login to access your Candid collections, we can help you set one up if you don't already have one.

We will keep you posted as we hear back from the Instagram team on the authentication issue that appears to be global in nature, impacting all Instagram platforms.

Thank you,
